OKC Realtors Share Christmas Light Safety Tips

OKC Realtors: Stringing lights up

Christmas time is almost here and you might want to get a head start on hanging some Christmas lights outside. Lights are a big part of the holiday decorations for most people, but it’s important to follow safety tips to avoid accidents. Did you know that aside from Christmas tree lighting issues, outside lights cause hundreds of severe, tragedies on an annual basis due to being improperly hung? Before you hang your lights test them out to make sure they work! House fires caused by lights isn’t any realtor’s idea of a good time. That’s precisely why our realtors put together a few helpful Christmas light safety tips.

  • Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Plain and simple, you have to read them!
  • Make sure lights are plugged into a circuit protected by a ground fault circuit (GFCI).
  • Don’t use sharp fasteners to hang light sets (nails, staples, hooks).
  • Never cover light sets with cloth or paper.
  • Never use frayed or damaged cords.
  • Never use strings with cracked or broken bulbs and sockets.
  • Don’t use light sets designed only for indoor use outdoors.
  • Verify extension cords are rated for number of light sets and the distance involved.
  • Make sure that the extension cord is also plugged into a GFCI outlet.
  • Replace any lights that go out.

In addition, keeping the lights unplugged until you have them all strung is the safest bet. If you’re planning on hanging your own lights our realtors would encourage you to keep ladder safety in mind as well. Our OKC realtors advise on using a good, sturdy ladder and make sure it’s on level ground before you start climbing up to the roof! It might not hurt to have a helper so you don’t have to climb up and down the ladder too much.

Our realtors love Christmas lights as much as you do, but we also love safety. On behalf of our realtors at Metro First Realty, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season!

Houses For Sale OKC- Bathroom Updates

OKC Realtors Share Easy Bathroom Updates For A Fresh Feel

OKC Realtor Tips To Get Rid Of A Boring Bathroom

When you own a house for several years, it can get a little boring looking at the same old stuff day in and day out. Being on a budget can make it more difficult to something about the rooms you’ve grown tired of seeing. For this reason, our OKC realtors have pulled together some information and we recommend starting with one of the easiest rooms in the house; the bathroom. The reason why the bathroom is one of the easier rooms to spruce up is due to its smaller size. It also won’t ring out your wallet.

Here are just a few easy bathroom updates for a fresh feel:

  • Try replacing your old towel bar with a modern one and if you can find matching accent shelves to hang on the wall that’ll give your bathroom wall an extra “wow” factor.
  • Replace the mirror with something a little more fancy looking, but remember a fancy look doesn’t have to mean high cost.
  • Consider giving your cabinets a fresh coat of paint or stain them. You’d be surprised how much just a color change can bring a whole new look to your bathroom.
  • Add some quick and simple pull out shelves to deep cabinets to keep your countertops clear and your storage space more organized.
  • Add a new shower curtain. This one is also simple, but surprising as to how much a new color can brighten up a room!
  • Light fixtures can be replaced for a relatively low cost and can make you literally see things in a “new light”.
  • Add some decorative accents of your choice for pops of color. It can be anything from candles to flowers in a vase.
  • Replace a regular shower head with a handheld sprayer to accommodate the different height requirements of every family member.

Do these ideas sound pretty easy to pull off? If you’re in a rut, our OKC realtors hope that these bathroom upgrade ideas help you get out. What’s even better is that most of the easy fixes don’t cost too much money so you don’t have to break the bank.

If you decide that remodeling just isn’t in the cards, because you’d rather look for new houses for sale in OKC, then feel free to reach out to our realtors at Metro First Realty. Our contact number is 405-242-4004.

OKC Realtors Providing Fall Home Maintenance Tips

OKC Realtors: Beginning a new season

It’s about to be a fun, colorful display of all the changing leaves and the crisp air will greet you when you leave the house. School is in full swing by now and OKC realtor team has much to do as the feeling of fall settles around us. With the month of September charging to a rapid close and October being right around the corner, our OKC realtor team has been thinking about fall. With all that being said, we have to say it’s time to start preparing your homes for fall. Here, we have provided a list of fall home maintenance to get you headed in the right direction.

Fall home cleaning tips from our OKC realtor team:

1.) Give your gutters a good cleaning.
2.) Test your heater for proper functioning.
3.) Clean out your dryer ducts.
4.) Check exterior for peeling paint.
5.) Re-caulk around windows and door frames.
6.) Check the roof for any damage.

There’s nothing worse than going into the cooler, rainier months with a damaged roof and not knowing it. As far as the other action items go it just makes good sense to do them, because getting your windows and doors sealed up helps to keep heat in and lowers your energy costs. Exterior paint being chipped can’t protect your home’s siding. Furthermore, dryer ducts pose fire risks if clogged as do the gutters. Finally, the heater functioning is pretty important.

Our OKC realtor team knows that you’re busy, but taking a little time to check up on these issues will save time and money in the long run. Our OKC realtor team also feels that aside from these basic tips we should encourage people to check their carbon monoxide and smoke detectors! We hope these fall home maintenance tips will help get your home prepared for the fall months to follow.

If you need an experienced realtor to show you houses for sale in OKC (or surrounding metro areas), please give Metro First Realty a call @ 405-242-4004.

Houses For Sale OKC: 1 Flaw Spotted During An Inspection

Houses For Sale OKC: The problem and how to fix it

During this time of year, a lot of people have closed on house deals prior to the start of fall so that they can settle in before winter. If you’re a late mover you may still be searching online for “houses for sale OKC.” If you’re still looking just know that one part of finalizing details on a home is obtaining a home inspection. A good home inspector will find the flaws anywhere and everywhere! One of the most common flaws spotted during a home inspection is related to the drainage. Rain may not have been a problem during the hot summer months, but you have to think about the home’s state as it will be if something isn’t taken care of.

Houses for sale OKC: Poor drainage problem

The problem: If you notice that the lawn often gets soggy after an average rain or water pools up in the driveway, this is a sign of poor drainage. If water continues to build up too much then over time it can back up to the house causing eventual structural damage or immediate signs of insect infestation, rot or mold.

A solution: Gutters should have downspouts that direct water away from the house. They should be extended 6-10 feet away from the foundation. If you decide to purchase the home as is, you may also consider French drain installation. You may also negotiate with the home seller to see if they will add this before closing on the home. With French drains water will be forced to flow downhill as the drains are slightly sloped trenches filled with round gravel and a pipe that diverts water away from the house.

The fall and winter storms are the ones to worry about and they’re right around the corner so don’t be surprised if your home inspector recommends that you have proper drainage for the safety of the home. You can hire a professional landscaping team to take care of your drainage problems for you. It may seem like it isn’t worth the upfront expense, but in the long run what proper drainage will save your house from will be worth it!
